Our Staff

Minister:
Dr. Bob Kimmerly was born in Halifax and grew up on both the Atlantic and Pacific coasts of Canada. His introduction to the middle of the country was in training for ministry in Saskatoon. In his first 25 years of ministry he served congregations of all sizes, from less than a dozen to hundreds in both BC and Saskatchewan. He stopped flying over Alberta and came to Edmonton in 2003 when he took a position as Executive Secretary of Edmonton Presbytery and married Joyce, who has always lived in Edmonton. After a few years of administration, he is now once again enjoying congregational ministry - the personal relationships, the preaching and the teaching. Bob appreciates the friendly atmosphere and open approach to travelling together on our journey of faith which is found at Kirk United Church.

Minister Emeritus:
Rev. Bell was born in England in 1924 and received his early education there. After a short spell in business, he joined the Royal Air Force in which he served for five years mostly in North Africa, Italy and Israel. Following the war he studied for the ministry. He received his MA from Cambridge University and took his theology at Westminster College, the Seminary for the Presbyterian Church of England. Prior to coming to Canada in 1956, Mr. Bell was minister at an historic Presbyterian Church in Warrington, England. During his years in Canada he has served the United Church in rural, suburban, and city charges. Mr. Bell has two married daughters and 4 grandchildren.

Organist:
Robert Kerslake's church musical career started at St. Paul's United Church in his home town of Souris, Manitoba. He came to Edmonton in February of 1954 and became Music Director at St. Paul's United in September of that year. Following his time there he worked at St. Andrew's Presbyterian for 4 years, Chalmer's United Church for 7 years before accepting the position of organist and choir director at St. Andrew's United Church where he remained until 1976 when he came to Kirk United. Robert has been Kirk's choir director and organist ever since. He enjoys sacred and secular music and he has been involved in several light opera productions, both as vocalist in the chorus and as an accompanist. His music has been enjoyed by many different groups for entertainment at banquets and other events including numerous secular programs here at Kirk. Robert being equally comfortable playing the organ or piano, will change from one to the other with ease during any performance.
